Vietnam
1. What are the eligibility requirements? The United States Department of State website posted the following requirements for inter-country adoption for Vietnam.
- Vietnam accepts married adoptive parents and single heterosexual adoptive parents.
- Adoptive parents must be at least 20 years older than the child being adopted.
- Single adoptive parents must be 25 years of age to start the process.
- Adoptive parents must not have had their parental rights restricted
- Adoptive parents must have good ethical qualities
- Adoptive parents must have the capacity to care for, support and educate the adoptive child.
2. What are the ages of children available to adopt?Adoptive parents can be matched with a child as young as six months old. Children up to and including the age of fifteen can be adopted. A child over age nine must consent in writing to his/her adoption. At this time we will accept applications from families who would like to parent an older child, age four and above.
3. What is the time frame to complete an adoption? We estimate 18 months to two years. Adoptive parents must travel to Vietnam to complete the adoption. Only one adoptive parent, in a marriage, is required to travel. The average length of stay is estimated at three weeks.
