Home Study for International Adoption

An adoption home study is the process between prospective adoptive parents and staff to determine the interests and abilities of adoptive parents concluding in a written report supported by dossier documents.  A home study consist of paperwork and interviews.

Each prospective adoptive parent is provided a list of documents to complete and paperwork to gather. These include however are not limited to an application, medical information, birth certificates, marriage license, divorce decree, adoption judgment, employment letter, references, financial verification statements, Kentucky child abuse investigation, and background checks.

ABOK staff schedule the following interviews with prospective adoptive parents: a single interview with each adoptive parent in the agency office and an interview with the entire family at the adoptive families home (including an individual interview with each child and other adults residing in the adoptive parents home). All information is compiled in a written report called a home study.
